Johnny Briggs needed to see a doctor after clashing with Bill Roache on 'Coronation Street'.

The late cobbles star - who sadly died last week aged 85 - opened up on his character Mike Baldwin's on-screen scrap with love rival Ken Barlow, and their rows over the latter's wife Dierdre (Anne Kirkbride).
In 'My Life as Mike Baldwin: The Autobiography, Johnny Briggs', he wrote: "I once tore Bill Roache’s lapel with the intensity of my grip. Yet in 1998, it was Barlow sending Baldwin crashing onto cobbles.
"It hurt – for real. In my long career, I was barely scratched, despite sword-fights, hair-raising car chases, even mad dogs.
"But Bill had me heading for the doctors. The crew had put a thin strip of foam on top of the cobbles to cushion my fall. But I caught my elbow and the pain shot right up my arm.
"My elbow blew up like a football. Yet I told the doctor a sling was out. Mike Baldwin couldn’t be walking around in a sling. The most annoying thing was it sparked off a twinge of gout! Barlow owed me."
Johnny admitted he and Bill got on much better than their 'Corrie' characters, and the only time they really got competitive was "on the golf course".
He added: "People were amazed to see Bill Roache (Barlow) and I together off screen. There’s nothing to dislike about the bloke.
"He’s a very intelligent, quiet, reasonable, well-mannered guy, not big-headed, genuinely nice. The only time I wanted to smash him for six is on the golf course."
Last month, the actor passed away "peacefully after a long illness".
In a statement his family said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Johnny Briggs.
"He passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness, with family by his side. He was 85.
We politely ask for privacy at this time, so that we can quietly grieve as a family and remember the wonderful times we had with him. Thank you."
