Lady Gaga has opened up about being a part of American Horror Story seasons 5 and 6.

Speaking to Britain's TV & Satellite Week magazine, the Golden Globe winner said: "For many people, darkness is just that, they see it as a bleak, empty space. But I like being able to explore my dark side - it can be fun to indulge your wicked impulses.

"When I'm on stage, I'm constantly evaluating my performances - what works, what doesn't work. But when I'm acting I don't feel the same need to have that kind of creative and artistic control."

She also opened up about the show's creator, Ryan Murphy, explaining: "I've never been so happy. Ryan is the person who gave me the chance to realise my acting ambitions.

"Directors have often rejected me in the past for being too young or having too big a nose, but Ryan has given me confidence and inspiration."

American Horror Story returns for its mysterious sixth season on FX in the US on Wednesday, September 14.
