The 46-year-old star is set to take part in this year's edition of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition and admitted that while she has "always wanted" to sign up, it had "never worked out" until now.

She said: "I've considered doing 'Strictly' for years but the timings had never worked out. I'm so delighted that this year, they have! I'm a huge fan of the show and can't believe I'm going to go from watching it in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it's unreal!"

Meanwhile, the former Hear'Say singer also known for having played the role of Michelle Connor on 'Coronation Street' but quit the role in 2019 after more than a decade but admitted it was the "right time" for her to leave.

She told MyWeekly: "When I left 'Coronation Street', it was the right time for me to take a break and explore other roles."

Kym - who is also set to star in the BBC's revival of school-based drama series 'Waterloo Road' when it returns to screens later this year - will join a line up on 'Strictly Come Dancing' that includes the likes of 'Loose Women' star Kaye Adams, Bros singer Matt Goss as well as former 'Blue Peter' presenter Helen Skelton and 'EastEnders' actor James Bye.

Completing the star-studded line up is CBeebies star Hamza Yassin, 'X Factor' contestant Fleur East as well as ex-footballer Tony Adams, Paralympic swimming champion Ellie Simmonds and singer Molly Rainford.

They will be joined by comedienne Jayde Adams, BBC radio presenter Richie Anderson, KISS FM DJ Tyler West and 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' actor Will Mellor, all in a bid to impress the judges and claim the Glitterball Trophy.

'Strictly Come Dancing' is set to return to BBC One on September 10.
