Kerry Godliman struggles to learn her lines for ‘Trigger Point’ as the show’s scripts are so stuffed with technical terms.
The ‘After Life’ actress, 50, said she is forced to spend hours memorising them due to the amount of jargon and acronyms delivered by her data analyst character Sonya Reeves in the ITV bomb disposal drama.
She was quoted in the Daily Star saying: “Because of what my character does for a job, I speak in all manner of jargon on the show. There are a lot of acronyms.
“I don’t quite know what I’m saying. In the first series I practically spoke in the periodic table, so it was very mysterious what I was saying.”
Kerry added about having to spend hours reading her scripts to make sure she can say all her lines convincingly: “You just have to go over and over them until you know them.”
She is starring in the second series of ‘Trigger Point’, which started on Sunday (28.01.24) night on ITV1 and ITVX, and Kerry added about the drama to come: “This time there are more bombs, more tension, more baddies and more extreme danger.
“I didn’t think it could top the first series, but I think it does.”
The new ‘Trigger Point’ series sees its bomb experts face an attack in the heart of a city, and much like in the first season, Kerry’s character feeds Lana, played by Vicky McClure, 40, information on explosive devices when she’s in the field.
Kerry said in a recent question and answer session with ITV about making the shift from the comedy elements of ‘After Life’ to the pure drama of ‘Trigger Point’: “I do feel lucky that I get to do both (comedy and drama.) I did drama first, way before comedy.
“When I first left drama school, I was doing ‘Casualty’ and ‘The Bill’ – all the dramas – and then quietly working up a stand-up career on the circuit.
“Those two worlds didn’t really ever cross over for me until I worked with Ricky Gervais, because he knew me from the comedy world but some of his shows had quite dramatic elements, too.
“When I did ‘After Life’ it became such a big show, so you get seen more and people think of you for other things.”
Kerry played dying Lisa in ‘After Life’, the late wife of Tony (played Ricky Gervais) who constantly watches videos of her from the past throughout the Netflix show.
