Katya Jones has signed up as an NHS Volunteer Responder.
The 31-year-old professional dancer is supporting the UK health services by volunteering to pick up patients' prescriptions on behalf of the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to Joanna Chimonides and Stephen Leng on FUBAR Radio, Katya explained: "I live in quite a small town and there hasn't been anything going on. Then today the alarm went off on my phone and I'm like, 'What's going on? I don't know what to do!'
"It was one of the patients. An elderly couple needed their medicine picking up from the pharmacy and taking to them and I was buzzing!"
The 'Strictly Come Dancing' star joins other celebrities who have offered to help the NHS during the unprecedented period as 'EastEnders' star Louisa Lytton and Lorraine Kelly took on the challenge.Volunteering for the NHS during this period has seen people take support calls for those feeling vulnerable, deliver medicines to those in need who are self-isolating, transport healthy patients back to their homes, and transport health equipment and medical supplies.
Volunteers are being asked to sign up online, and must be over the age of 18 and show no signs of the symptoms - including a dry cough and a high fever - and must pass a DBS check.
But 'Strictly' star Katya admitted she hasn't done any dance training in lockdown, with the exception of her one dance class.
She said: "Do you know what's really funny? The one thing I haven't done at all during the lockdown is dancing.
"I swear, I did one class, I led one class, and that's it. I've not danced at all."
The dance show could be postponed this year due to the virus, and though producers are working hard to think of new rules to get the show on air, the pros have not been told if the show will proceed.
She added: "I think we'll need to wait and hear how the rules are going to change further on because we normally start at the end of July/ beginning of August, so things might drastically change of course with the social distancing and things like that."
