Katie McGlynn is to train to be a comedian in new show 'Stand Up and Deliver'.
The former 'Coronation Street' star and several other famous faces will team up with a stand-up comedian to work on a comedy set, before taking to the stage to help raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.
A source told The Sun's Bizarre TV column: “It’s a real eclectic mix of celebs. They’re all from very different backgrounds and hopefully will be able to work with some of the country’s top comics, such as David Baddiel, Jason Manford and Zoe Lyons, to craft their material."
The upcoming Channel 4 show will also star Reverend Richard Coles, 'Love Island’ star Curtis Pritchard, Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder, and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, as she swaps the House of Lords for a comedy club.
An insider said: “Baroness Warsi is the one who may raise the most eyebrows though. A few years ago she was helping to craft UK policy, now she’s cracking jokes in a comedy club.”
Becky Cadman, Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment at Channel 4, said: “Making a hard-bitten comedy audience laugh is surely one of the scariest challenges on television and following our plucky cast as they prepare to perform promises to be huge fun.”
Sarah Tyekiff, Head of Unscripted at Lime Pictures, added: “We couldn’t be happier to be making this new format for Channel 4 and Stand Up To Cancer. Five famous faces are about to be thrust into the often harsh and unforgiving world of stand up. It’s going to be comedy gold. We cannot wait to see which of our celebrities will stand up to the challenge.”
