Kate Garraway has revealed the "heartbreaking" texts from her husband as he was hospitalised with COVID-19.
Before he was put into an induced coma last year, Derek Draper sent the 'Good Morning Britain' presenter a number of texts, which Kate shares in her new book 'The Power of Hope'.
He wrote: "This is not the last time you will see me. It isn’t." But Kate admitted: "He would never have said that if at least a small part of him hadn’t been wondering if it was. His messages became more and more desperate. They were heart-breaking to read."
And, as Derek's condition worsened, he feared he would die and told Kate in a phonecall: "I want you at the funeral."
After more than 373 days in hospital, Derek was allowed home earlier this month but his condition remains serious and he has not fully regained his speech.
Speaking about her reasons for writing the book, Kate, 53, recently explained: "I’m painfully aware that Derek would have wanted to tell his own story if he could - and one day he still may.
"I have tried to do him – and all those who love him – justice, and his love and life are present in every line.
"On an emotional level, I hope readers will also draw something from how we, his family, have struggled to cope."
