Kate Garraway practices "a lot of mindfulness" when she feels life is becoming "quite overwhelming".
The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter has experienced "great loneliness and fear" throughout her husband Derek Draper's hospital battle with coronavirus and the after-effects, for which he still receives 24/7 care at home.
Kate appears in a new BBC Two show, 'Walking With... Kate Garraway', in which she goes for an invigorating walk along the edge of the Cotswolds Hills.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she says on tonight's (10.11.21) episode: “I’ve had moments of great loneliness and fear.
“It’s hard because the person I wanted to give me a hug is the person that can’t – and that’s Derek.
“There’s something about coming here and reminding yourself that you can feel the countryside wrapping its arms around you and giving you love back. I feel very grateful for today.
"I think this is probably the first time, certainly since Derek contracted COVID, that I’ve had a whole day to myself with no purpose other than taking in the sights and sounds, just the joy of the countryside.
"I was doing a lot of mindfulness and trying to create some space in my head when it feels life is quite overwhelming.
“It’s much easier to do when you’re somewhere like this. It is much easier to hang on to the hope of a miracle. A great sense that anything can happen.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Kate heads into a church and admits she hasn't visited such a space since Derek was struck down with COVID.
She says: "I haven’t been to church since Derek got sick.
“We used to go regularly. It does feel like there’s an incredible sense of peace.
“It makes me feel quite emotional. You can probably guess what I’m praying for."
Derek was in hospital from March 2020 to April 2021, during which coronavirus did some long-term damage to his organs.
