Kate Garraway insists she's 'okay' as her husband continues to battle aftermath of Covid-19

Kate Garraway has insisted she’s “okay” as her husband continues to battle the effects of Covid-19 in hospital.

Derek Draper has been hospitalised since March when he was diagnosed with Covid-19 - which is now free of - and his wife Kate has now assured fans she’s doing okay despite her worries about her spouse.

When asked if she’s “okay”, she said: “I think so. I don’t know what else one can be, really. I try to go day to day, but also, now we’re in a stage where we’re trying to also have a plan, really. We went into the first lockdown and it was an emergency, and then it went on and on and on, and suddenly you have to start trying to find the light in the midst of the emergency.

“So I think so. I’m aware people are saying I’m looking a bit thin, but I am eating, I promise you. I think I just look a bit … you know that pinched look when you’re dealing with stuff. But I promise you I’m feeding myself, and others are.”

And Kate also insisted her two children - Darcey, 14, and William, 11, whom she has with Derek - are her “heroes” amid Derek’s health battle.

Asked about her kids, she added: “I think [they’re okay], I think they’re remarkable. They’re my heroes really. Absolute heroes.”

Last week, 53-year-old Derek said his first word in seven months when he whispered “pain" to his doctors.

And Kate, also 53, has “hope” that the update on his condition is “the beginning of him emerging” from the induced coma he was put into in March.

Speaking during an appearance on ‘Lorraine’ on Monday (02.11.20), she explained: “He’s officially in what they call PDOC. All these new words one learns … that’s a Prolonged Disorder Of Consciousness.

“They’ve been aware that he has been able to sense pain because they’ve done tests, and they’ve been aware that he can hear, because he’s reacted sometimes … like, startled if there’s been a bang, so there’s been things like that, and eye opening and focusing we’ve had for a while.

“But that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s any connection. So I feel like, I’m hoping, that this is the beginning of him emerging. But there’s a long road ahead.”

Derek was rushed to the hospital and put into an induced coma in March after testing positive for the virus.

He has since tested negative but must remain in hospital due to the damaging impact the virus has had on his body.
