Kate Garraway is keen to have her husband Derek Draper visit his extended family at Christmas, but she is focusing on coming to terms with the "new normal" as he continues to deal with the after-effects of coronavirus.
The 54-year old TV presenter admitted it might not be possible for Derek to travel from their family home in London to his home town of Chorley over the festive period.
She told Woman’s Own magazine: "The dream would be to get Derek to Chorley. At the moment, moving him is a big problem: it's exhausting for him.
"This year, we have got him home - and fingers crossed we can keep him home. Of course, he's not going to be putting on his Santa costume, going out with [daughter] Darcey for a father-and-daughter Christmas shop or the same with [son] Billy.
"None of those things are on the horizon at the moment so it's adjusting to a new normal but also grateful he's here at all. which we didn't have at all last year and feared would never happen."
Derek was in hospital for over a year as he dealt with COVID and the after-effects, and he continues to receive 24/7 care at home now.
But if he cannot travel to Chorley, then Kate is hoping Derek's family will be able to visit her house for Christmas.
She added: "If not, maybe the Drapers could come to us for a big gathering, COVID permitting. And certainly I'll be seeing the Garraways but my oven is broken so I'm not sure anyone wants to come to me."
