Kate Garraway found it "unnerving" being around so many people during her first night out in 17 months.
The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter - whose husband Derek Draper was in hospital from March 2020 to April 2021 and is continuing to recover from the after-effects of COVID-19 with 24/7 care at home - was joined by their kids Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, at a live magic show over the weekend.
She wrote on Instagram: "It was unnerving to be with so many people after so long and the kids were wide eyed and more than a little disorientated to be in the centre of London with all the buzz but excited too.
"I couldn’t believe my eyes welled up at the spirit and celebration and pure joy of the performers getting the chance to entertain again - magic back in the west end and in our lives."
The 54-year-old star admitted she and her children found it "strange" being out in public while Derek is still recovering at home.
She continued: "Well this was a moment - the first time the kids & I have been out to “something” other than school or work since Derek got sick.
"It was a magic show we were supposed to be heading to when he was rushed into hospital - and we felt strange that we were going out to one when he isn’t ready to - YET.
"But it was so wonderful to see Darcey and Billy enthralled and mystified and enraptured - the magic of life returning. And I know that’s what Derek wants too. (sic)"
Derek continues to require special round-the-clock care at home, and Kate recently admitted there are "huge challenges ahead".
She said: "He’s alright, he’s alright. He’s very up and down, we’re certainly not a long way out of the woods.
"[He came home] not because he was better, no. But being home has meant we’ve seen some things improved.
"Definitely having the family around, having the children around has provided stimulation and I think the problem is you latch on to the positives, which is good because you have to, but there’s absolutely no doubt that there’s huge challenges ahead."
