Kate Garraway feels "physically sick" about her first Christmas without her husband.
The 53-year-old television presenter - who has children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, with Derek Draper - is worried about the prospect of not being able to see Derek on Christmas Day (25.12.20), as he continues to battle the effects of coronavirus in hospital.
Appearing on 'Good Morning Britain' on Friday (20.11.20), she said: "I feel physically sick, actually, and can feel my chest tightening at the thought of it. I'm in total panic about the idea of me, Darcey and Billy on our own this Christmas unable to visit Derek because of potential restrictions."
Derek, 53, was rushed to hospital in March and was put in an induced coma after testing positive for the virus.
While he is now Covid-free, Derek remains in hospital due to the damaging impact the virus had on his body.
Kate is stuck on how to fill the "emotional hole" of Derek's absence, as the government guidelines could prevent her from seeing her friends and family.
She said: "That huge emotional hole, and I don't know how to fill it, without grandparents and without friends helping to fill it. It feels like such a significant moment as all festivals are. I do feel in a panic about it, but we're in this situation because of the spread of a disease that at the moment doesn't have a cure."
Earlier this month, Derek mouthed his first word after seven months when he whispered “pain" to his doctors.
Kate explained: "[The hospital staff] keep talking to him and they would say 'OK, we're just going to move your arm or leg' and every time they said 'Let us know if you feel pain.’ He mouthed ‘pain' … everyone stopped and stared.”
