Kate Garraway has revealed her husband's parents haven't been able to see him for six months, as he continues to battle the effects of coronavirus.
Derek Draper has been in and out of intensive care after he was taken to hospital on March 28th, and the 'Good Morning Britain' presenter insisted if the former lobbyist's mum and dad can go six months without seeing their "desperately ill" son then others can "probably get through" the current situation.
Speaking on 'GMB', she said: "Derek's mum and dad haven't been able to see him.
"I think if they can go six months without giving a hug to their son, who is so desperately ill, then the rest of us can probably get through.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to depress everybody. But that's the reality of getting caught up in the virus."
The 53-year-old TV presenter admitted she sympathises with people who are "fed up" of the pandemic, but she called for people to do their "best" after some have snubbed social distancing and ditched their face masks.
She said: "I have huge sympathy with people who are fed up with it [coronavirus].
"I think if you haven't been touched by it directly, but your livelihood has been devastated, then of course you are going to get frustrated.
"It makes me tempted to show them a picture of Derek in his current state and say, 'You don't want this in your life.'
"I think there is huge confusion but we know we should be wearing a mask and social distancing. We have to do our best.
"There are so many shades of grey. If we stick to basics we can hopefully get through it."
Derek - who married Kate in 2005 and has kids Darcy, 14, and Billy, 11, with her - was rushed to hospital in March when he tested positive for coronavirus, and while he is now free of Covid-19, he remains in intensive care following the impact of the deadly respiratory disease.
