Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper remains unable to talk, but her kids are "besides themselves to have him home".
The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter welcomed her husband home from hospital nearly a month ago, as he continues his recovery from the effects of coronavirus, but he still isn't able to speak to Kate and their children Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11.
Kate, 53, told BBC Radio 2: "He isn’t really able to speak at the moment so he can’t tell them off, I have to be the bad guy!
"They are besides themselves to have him home. They are my heroes.
"They know instinctively how to talk to him but not ask too much from him. In a way that grown-ups want to see the old Derek, they have an instinct, there is a lot of love there."
Derek was diagnosed with coronavirus in March last year and after emerging from an induced coma, he returned home earlier this month.
However, Kate admitted her family are still going through a period of adjustment, as Derek continues his recovery.
She explained: "It feels like yesterday, I am still in a whirlwind.
"He’s doing amazingly. The moment he came through the door was euphoric and since then we have been adjusting to Derek's new normal and the hope is he will be able to progress."
In January, Kate revealed Derek's body was still "ravaged by coronavirus".
The presenter - who has been married to Derek since 2005 - described the situation at the time as being "unbearable".
She said: "Derek's still ravaged from the effects of COVID from way back in March, his recovery is incredibly uncertain.
"I'm trying to look for new things and new ways and talking to doctors about what we can do for him meanwhile people are still dying in extraordinary numbers - people that aren't older and haven't got underlying conditions, it's unbearable."
