The 31-year-old actor created and starred in the BBC Three comedy 'Juice' - which focused on the leading character of Jamma as he navigated life and relationships - and after seeing off competition from Adjani Salmon ('Dreaming Whilst Black'), David Tennant, ('Good Omens') ,Hammed Animashaun, ('Black Ops'), Jamie Demetriou ('A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou'), and Joseph Gilgun ('Brassic') joked that he "wasn't humbled" by the big win at all.

"Oh my God, I nearly dropped it! What's happening? Thank you! I'm really humbled - no I'm not, why am I saying that? You have put me on a pedestal and you're going to regret it! No, thank you! I literally wouldn't be here without everyone who worked on the show.

"But also I wanna thank the people who often go unthanked. My partner Tim, my website Alex, thank you so much because I'm so not boundaried as a person, thank you for putting up with me.

"Thank you to the BBC for championing a show that I was trying to get commissioned and thank you to my therapist. We had a conversation this week about how I have to stop relying on external forms of adoration. So, bad timing!"

Meanwhile, Gbemisola Ikumelo won the Best Female Performance in a Comedy for her role in 'Black Ops', having gone up against Bridget Christie, ('The Change'), Máiréad Tyers, ('Extraordinary') Roisin Gallagher ('The Lovers') , Sofia Oxenham, ('Extraordinary') (Disney+) and Taj Atwal,( 'Hullraisers') and promptly squealed into the microphone upon arriving on the stage to collect her award.

She said: "Okay, can I just get a bit black church in here and say 'God is good!' That is how I know diversity is working, and God, thank you so much. you took this dark young kid and put me into this place of light and set me on this journey which I'm so thankful for."
