Josh Widdicombe has discovered King Henry VIII is one of his ancestors.
The 38-year-old comedian made the striking find when taking part in an episode of BBC genealogy show 'Who Do You Think You Are?'.
He said: "To say it’s exceeded my expectations is the understatement of a lifetime. I was just expecting a couple of farmers. It’s proper blue blood, isn’t it?"
The former 'Mock the Week' star learned that he is related to Henry - infamous for beheading two of his six wives - via a distant great nan, said to be the king’s illegitimate daughter.
During Josh's appearance on the show, he also learns he is descended from King Edward I, and that his 10 times great-grandfather was a trusted adviser to King Charles I.
As such, the role of Henry Rich, the first Earl of Holland, was to accompany him to the toilet at all times.
While it may not sound very appealing, professor Tracy Borman was quick to note that this unusual job was actually one of the most coveted in the palace.
She said "It’s the most sought-after role in the king’s court. In those days it’s all about getting ahead as well as getting to be with the king."
Josh's royal discovery comes five years after 'EastEnders' star Danny Dyer, 44, found out on the programme that he was also related to royalty in the shape of King Edward III.
Veteran actress Dame Judi Dench, 86, 'Mama Do' hitmaker Pixie Lott, 30, comedian Joe Lycett, and TV presenter Alex Scott will also appear in the upcoming 18th series of the hit BBC show, which will hit screens next week.
