Jordan North "couldn't turn down" the job Capital Breakfast.
The 34-year-old star had no plans to leave Radio 1 when he was offered the chance to take the reins on the weekday show following the sudden departure of long-running host Roman but began his presenting duties on Monday (08.04.24), just days after celebrating his brother's stag-do in Spin.
He told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "I’ve been burning the candle at both ends. I’m the best man. There were no s*** tattoos, we were on our best behaviour. I’m stag-do’d out now.
"I wasn’t looking to leave but then this opportunity came up and you don’t turn Capital down. I know that sounds corny but it’s a massive breakfast show. I told three people, because I had to keep it quiet, and they all said, ‘Go for it’."
The former 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' star now joins occasional 'This Morning' host Sian Welby and fellow former Radio 1 host Chris Stark on weekday mornings but is still close to his old colleagues.
He said: "I know that sounds corny but it’s a massive breakfast show. I told three people, because I had to keep it quiet, and they all said, ‘Go for it’. I have loads of good friends [at BBC Radio 1]. When I rang Vick [Hope] she was great. She told me to get a natural light machine, which helps wake you up. They all texted me before the first show.
"Greg James said good luck. They pit us as rivals but really we’re all mates.”
'Celebrity Gogglebox' star Roman, 31, first announced his departure from the network in February after almost a decade on air.
He said: "Capital is my family, you as the wonderful listeners that you’ve been, you’ve been with me at my best times and my absolute lowest … Capital and Global have helped change me. I was 22 years old when I first joined Capital and it’s built me into the man that I am today, it is all that I know."
