When Marvel fans think of the small screen representation of The Punisher, Jon Bernthal is now the man to spring right to mind after he took the role of the anti-hero in season two of Netflix original series Daredevil.
Speaking about the darkness of the world The Punisher lives in, Bernthal explained that this played a huge part into why he took on the role. He told GQ: “I’m working on The Punisher now. You know, this whole superhero-comic-book thing is something I had zero interest in being a part of. The guys that I really, really respect as actors seem to have kind of purposely stayed away from that. I don’t mean that I’m above that or anything, just that it was not for me.
“But then when I got to know a little bit about this character… He ain’t got a f**king cape. He ain’t got any superpowers He’s a f**king tortured, angry father and husband who’s living in this unbelievable world of darkness and loss and torment. Frank Castle resonates with me.”
Now Bernthal is gearing up for the production and release of his own original series The Punisher, after the character gained such brilliant acclaim from critics and fans alike when viewers binged the second season of Daredevil.
Daredevil seasons 1 and 2 are available now on Netflix, with The Punisher set to debut at some point in 2017.
