John Michie is glad his 'Coronation Street' character hasn't turned into a "crazy serial killer".
The 56-year-old actor is to bow out of his role as twisted firestarter Karl Munro later this year, and while his alter-ego killed off Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati), he is glad the soap bad boy has not gone on an unrealistic mass murdering spree.
He said: "I said to the new producer when I arrived, 'Please, I know Karl has to go but I hope it's not strung out for too long. I'd rather have a short, sharp, quick ending.
"Because sometimes I think stories are strung out and people begin to lose interest.
"It was good to go down that route, without being a crazy serial killer.
"Because let's face it, you don't get many of them in suburban Britain."
John is swapping the 'Coronation Street' cobbles for the 'Holby City' hospital, and he can't wait to scrub up and get his teeth stuck into his new role as a leading character in the show's neurology department.
He added to the Yorkshire Evening Post newspaper: "It's a complete change - from scally to surgeon!
"It's quite a leap from Corrie, I've never done medical drama before."
