Joel Dommett "loves the pressure" of live television.
The 37-year-old comedian is set to host the National Television Awards on Thursday 13 October on ITV and explained that he is a "bit of a psychopath" when it comes to hosting live events.
He said: "The thing about live events is that you can prepare and rehearse and deliver jokes that are written to an inch of their lives, but people always remember the bits you can't plan for. I am a bit of a psychopath when it comes to presenting. I just love the pressure."
The 'Masked Dancer' host went on to explain that he still feels "new" to the world of presenting and often uses his fitness training to control his nerves befre going live which has helped him become "much more relaxed" on screen.
He told The Daily Star newspaper: "I still feel new, naive and I still feel like I am learning. I wear a heart rate moni tor and use my experience of fitness training to breathe properly and try and bring my heart rate down before going on stage so I don't get overwhelmed. But I do think I have come a long way though. I am a much more relaxed and calm presenter than I used to be."
The annual television awards ceremony was due to take place on 15 September, but was postponed as the country entered a national mourning period following the death of Queen Elizabeth last Thursday (08.09.22).
In a statement, organisers said: "We have taken the decision to postpone this year’s National Television Awards as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The 2022 NTAs will now take place on Thursday, 13th October, live from The OVO Arena Wembley.
To reflect the period of national mourning, viewer voting is also being paused. The public vote will resume on Tuesday 20th September at 9am and remain open until the day of the ceremony.
Tickets remain valid for the new date."
