Joanne Froggat cares more about her appearance in her everyday life than she does about how she looks on TV.
The 'Downton Abbey' actress admits she won't leave the house without make-up on because she likes to always look her best.
However, Joanne doesn't care if she looks awful on screen as long as her appearance is crucial to the role she is playing.
She is quoted by The Daily Telegraph newspaper as saying: "I never leave the house without my mascara on.
"I don't ever care how bad I look on screen as long as it's right for the character, even if it means avoiding the mirror at work.
"It's about the person I'm portraying. I'm not trying to project who I want to be or how confident I feel as myself."
Joanne will reprise her role as lady's maid Anna Bates in the ITV period drama for a fifth series, which will air later this year.
The 33-year-old actress is thrilled the show - which is written by Julian Fellowes - is returning for another run and is still pleasantly surprised it is so popular.
She said: "None of us would've dared expect the success of 'Downton'. I was joking when we first started filming saying I'm the kiss of death to any show because I've never done a second series of anything, so if I'm in it then it definitely won't keep going."
