Jeremy Vine tries to use telepathy to help contestants on 'Eggheads'.
The 56-year-old TV presenter has hosted the long-running quiz show for more than a decade, and he's now revealed he attempts to use thought transference to steer contestants towards the correct answers.
He explained: "I am always rooting for the contestants. Sometimes they are saying the correct answer and then it drifts away again. I'm thinking, 'Go back!'
"I try to think about the right answer for them. I desperately try to use telepathy to tell them to go back to the first answer they were thinking of. But it doesn't happen.
"I think that proves telepathy doesn't work!"
Despite this, Jeremy is careful to not overstep the line, as he's not meant to give the answers away.
He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I have to be careful. I mustn't do anything that gives an answer away."
'Eggheads' moved from the BBC to Channel 5 earlier this year.
And the presenter subsequently claimed the BBC axed the quiz show in a bid to attract younger viewers.
He said: "The good old BBC are very aware they need to innovate constantly and bring on a younger audience.
"If you’re a successful show - which 'Eggheads' is with over 2,000 editions - you’re always going to be vulnerable to somebody saying, 'I think we can find something better.' "
Jeremy also hailed 'Eggheads' as "one of the greatest quizzes in British TV history".
He added: "I’m sure fans of 'Eggheads' will share in my delight it has found a new home on Channel 5."
Prior to that, a BBC spokesman explained the broadcaster's thinking behind its decision to axe the show.
He said: "We sometimes have to make difficult decisions in order to grow new shows and we would like to thank the Eggheads and Jeremy Vine, and wish them well with their next chapter.”
