Jeremy Clarkson thought he was going to die in a crash.
The incident occurred during filming for the new series of 'The Grand Tour' in Scotland, when the 61-year-old presenter navigated a tight corner and his car’s tow bar broke, causing the caravan he was towing to begin to overtake him.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Jeremy said of the incident: “There was a point, when it started to overtake me, that I thought, ‘God I’m having the biggest accident of my life’.
“Then I thought, ‘No, wait, I’m still in control’.
"And then, ‘The caravan’s come off’, and the whole tow bar had detached."
But rather than show concern, fellow host James May clearly saw the funny side.
Jeremy added: “That really happened. I thought James’ lungs were going to come out, he was laughing so much.”
And although Jeremy has made a habit of wrecking caravans on screen in the past, he insists this was no set-up.
He said: “On that occasion, that was a pure, genuine, 100 per cent accident.”
James recalled his version of the event.
He said: “For half a second I thought the whole rig had gone off the edge.
“I thought, ‘We are finally shot of Jeremy, with his beloved caravan’.”
With ‘The Grand Tour Presents… Lochdown’ filming taking place during lockdown owing to the coronavirus pandemic, Jeremy, James and their co-host Richard Hammond former a bubble with the crew, and show bosses attempted to book entire hotels so as not to breach restrictions.
However, filming in the often remote Highlands and Outer Hebrides meant that wasn’t always possible so they sometimes had to stay in caravans.
