The 55-year-old TV star - who was sacked by the BBC earlier this year for punching a producer in a row over a steak - drove around the show's track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey in aid of charity.

Before embarking on the lap, Jeremy asked his Twitter followers which of three sports cars - two Ferraris and a Mercedes-Benz - he should use, saying: "Right. About to do my last ever lap of the Top Gear test track. What car should I use?"

And following the lap, Jeremy revealed the mixed emotions he experienced having taken to the track for one final run.

He tweeted: "My last ever lap of the Top Gear track is done. Bit sad leaving the place for the final time.

"2 good things about the last lap. It raised a load of cash for a good cause. And I did the motherf***er of all tail slides through Chicago. (sic)"

Meanwhile, Jeremy's replacement, Chris Evans, recently said he has "big shoes" to fill and the responsibility has led him to feel like sci-fi character Doctor Who.

He said: "There have been 34 presenters before me, so it's a bit like 'Doctor Who'.

"When I took over Terry Wogan's Radio 2 show, people kept saying 'I had big shoes to fill' and they keep saying it again now.

"By the way, Jeremy is very tall, so they're even bigger shoes to fill."
