Jenna Coleman found it "very hard to say goodbye" to 'Doctor Who'.

The 29-year-old actress announced she had quit her role as companion Clara Oswald in the sci-fi drama earlier this month and she's now admitted it was difficult saying her goodbyes to the cast and crew.

She said: "I recognise that it's a special part of my life. The storytelling is so dynamic, and big, and whimsical, and magical. You feel like you're in a fairy tale and it's really hard to walk away from that. It's a lot more than just a job - the friendships I have with the crew and Peter [Capaldi], it's very hard to say goodbye to it."

The brunette beauty - who is set to play Queen Victoria in a new BBC drama - confessed she struggled to hold back the tears while filming her final scene with Capaldi, who plays the titular Time Lord.

She told Entertainment Weekly: "It was just really weird. We film out of sequence as well so, my last part with Peter, I couldn't quite look at him because it wasn't supposed to be a sad part. It's hard to go into detail without telling you anything, but I was really overwhelmed."

Meanwhile, Peter and showrunner Steven Moffat have confessed they tried to convince Jenna to stay numerous times.

Speaking at the Radio Times Festival, Capaldi said: "We ambushed her and tried to talk sense into her."

Moffat added: "It was the worst ambush ever. Peter said, 'I think there might be a chance we can convince Jenna to stay ... She's coming over! Don't look at her!' "
