ITV have today confirmed that Jenna Coleman will be starring as a young Queen Victoria in their major new eight-part drama series Victoria.
Following the early life of the monarch, viewers will see her ascension to the throne aged just 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. Going on to rule for 63 years, Queen Victoria was our longest-serving monarch until she was overtaken earlier this month by Elizabeth II.
Jenna said: "I am delighted to be cast as Queen Victoria in this ambitious drama of her life. She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can't wait to tell her story."
Created and written by Daisy Goodwin who's making her screenwriting debut, Daisy will also serve as executive producer alongside Dan McCulloch and Mammoth Screen's Managing Director Damien Timmer.
A 90-minute special opening episode will kick things off, and will be following by seven one-hour episodes, with Paul Frift producing the series and Tom Vaughan opening as director.
Further casting is now underway for the drama, which will begin filming in locations around the North of England this October.
