Jay Blades is forging a new career as a DJ

The 'Repair Shop' presenter has landed his first major gig at London private members’ club The Ned this Saturday (22.10.22), and he has plenty of 80s and 90s hits lined up to wow revellers.

He said: "I am now a DJ. I’m being taught by my friend, Ray Banton, and playing music that he supplies me.

"You can expect 80s and 90s."

Jay is expecting his DJ debut to be a steamy affair, admitting some of the music he is planning to play will "get a bit sexual".

He told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "If you bring your partner down there you might get a bit naked, as the music does get a bit sexual.

"I love music. Ray has DJ’d all around the world and he says I’m ready.

"I think I’m ready for it. And I’m going to wear something gorgeous."

Just days after Jay's first major DJ gig, an episode of 'The Repair Shop' featuring King Charles will air as part of the BBC's centenary celebrations.

The 73-year-old monarch met with host Jay and his expert team to explore their shared passion for preserving heritage craft skills, and the episode - which will air on 26 October at 8pm - sees Charles ask for them to mend a piece of pottery made for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and an 18th century bracket clock.

The episode was partly filmed in August 2021 and Jay, ceramics expert Kirsten Ramsay, furniture restorer Will Kirk, and horologist Steve Fletcher were invited to Dumfries House in Scotland to meet the royal, who was then still Prince of Wales.

On the programme, Charles gives Jay a tour of the estate before they meet students on the Building Craft Programme, which was set up by The Prince's Foundation.

Jay admitted it was easy to find common ground with the king.

He said: "You’ve got someone from a council estate and someone from a royal estate that have the same interests about apprenticeships and heritage crafts

"It is unbelievable to see that two people from so far apart, from different ends of the spectrum, actually have the same interests."
