Jasmyn Banks has quit 'EastEnders'.
The actress will leave her role as mild-mannered Alice Branning shortly after Steve John Shepherd - who plays Alice's love interest, manipulative Michael Moon - makes a dramatic exit of his own on the BBC One soap.
Jasmyn wrote on Twitter: "Thanks so much to everyone wishing me well you've made me smile, but fear not there's still alot to come on screen for Alice #staytuned xx (sic)"
One heartbroken fan replied: "is that meant to make us feel better?"
Alice - who first arrived in Walford 18 months ago - is expected to be the catalyst in Michael's big exit when she uncovers the truth about his scheming ways.
Show bosses are rumoured to be plotting a dramatic death scene for Michael, but are keeping the details of Alice's departure closely guarded.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "When Steve announced he was leaving it paved the way for Jasmyn to go too.
"And when it all starts up again we're going to see a completely different side to Alice. She will finally realise Michael has been using her and no one would ever be able to predict her reaction."
When Steve announced his departure from 'EastEnders' back in March after three years on the show, fans were promised Michael's storylines would be resolved in a "nail-biting plot twist".
The actor said at the time: "I feel now is the time to move on. I have relished every minute of exploring his character - the good and the bad.
"I feel extremely privileged to have had this amazing experience and want to thank everybody - most importantly the fans of the show - for taking Michael and his numerous flaws into their hearts."
