Janusz Domagala felt pressure as the first ever Polish contestant on ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The 34-year-old personal assistant has become the ninth contestant to be sent home from the Channel 4 show after failing to wow judges Dame Prue Leith, 82, and Paul Hollywood, 56, with his rendering of a Brighton Pride float during the Patisserie Week episode on Tuesday (08.11.2022).
The Signature challenge saw the contestants asked to produce six Mini Charlottes, with Janusz's being deemed “untidy” with a “tough” sponge, while in the Technical challenge they had to whip up 'vertical tarts'.
Janusz was a gracious loser, saying on his departure: "I am not upset, the best three bakers are left clearly. It was an amazing time, amazing people."
In a letter shared on social media, Janusz wrote: "Bake Off was the best experience of my life. I could have only dreamed of being a semi-finalist.
“If you are even thinking about applying but you are scared that you might have what it takes please apply anyway! I felt exactly the same way and look where it got me.
"Being the first Polish contestant, I felt I had a lot to prove and I hope you enjoyed seeing me bring some Polish flare to the tent.
"[I am] sending all the love that there is."
On the flip side, Abdul - who will join Sandro and Syabira in the final next week - was awarded with Star Baker.
The 29-year-old electronics engineer said of his victory: "I don't know man, in the final and Star Baker as well, it's unbelievable. This is just awesome to see because it just shows that I have been improving."
Last week, Janusz became very Prime Ministerial in a statement on TikTok as he clarified he didn’t “know what happened” to his eight spring roll during Pastry Week’s technical challenge.
With a Downing Street backdrop, he offered his sincerest apologies about “spring roll-gate” and joked Prue might have eaten the missing item.
