Jane McDonald's fiancé Eddie Rothe has died after a battle with lung cancer.
The 58-year-old singer and ‘Loose Women’ star shared a statement on her official Twitter account on Wednesday (07.04.21) announcing her “beloved long term partner” passed away on March 26.
The statement read: “Announcement 1/2: It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Jane’s beloved long term partner, Ed, passed away on Friday 26th March. He had been battling lung cancer for the last few months. We would like to thank everyone for all their help and support...
“Announcement 2/2: ...during this very difficult time, especially the NHS staff and the wonderful team at The Wakefield Hospice. The funeral took place earlier today and we would please ask for your kindness in observing Jane’s privacy for her and Ed’s family at this sad time. (sic)”
Jane and Eddie – who was a member of the 60s band The Searchers – first started dating in 1980 when Jane was 17, but parted ways before Jane went on to marry her first husband Paul from 1986 to 1987.
She later tied the knot with Hendrik Brixen, her former manager, in 1998 before their divorce in 2002, and then in 2008 she reunited with her first love Ed, whom she has been with ever since.
The ‘Cruising with Jane McDonald’ star previously gushed over her fiancé, and praised him for being supportive of her hectic career.
She said: "He is very funny and he makes me laugh every day. He also brings me a cup of tea every morning, no matter what. I am married to my job and that is difficult for anyone, but Ed lets me go off and do what I need to do.”
