James Nesbitt has confirmed he won't be returning for the second series of BBC One hit thriller The Missing.
The first series saw the show follow Nesbitt's character Tony as he went out in search of his missing son Olly, but the second offering will now focus on a new investigation within which Julien Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo) is involved.
Speaking to Radio Times, Nesbitt confirmed he wouldn't come back and also addressed the first series' finale's amibuity, as well as the fate of missing Olly.
Final scenes saw a deranged Tony searching Russia for his son before approaching a young boy in the country whom he thought could be his offspring.
"I was talking to someone about the ending and I was saying it definitely wasn't Olly at the end," he explained.
"Tony is demented and Oliver is dead and the only place that Tony can find solace is in this demented world. And that was how I was playing it.
"But the director Tom Shankland... arrived and said, 'Oh no, that was Olly' - so there was an ambiguity to it."
Writing duo Harry and Jack Williams return for the second series of The Missing, which will again be a co-production between the BBC and American cable network Starz.
