James Nesbitt says he has plenty in common with his playboy 'Cold Feet' character.
The 53-year-old actor portrays Adam Williams in the comedy and admitted he can see himself in Adam, who humiliates his family in the upcoming series by chasing after young women.
James - whose 22 year marriage to Sonia Forbes-Adams ended in divorce two years ago after a string of cheating allegations against him - told The Sun: "God, I've certainly put my family through some difficult times in the past. There's not a million miles between me and Adam - as much as I'd like to say it's been a stretch.
"I wouldn't say I've learnt a lot from him, I would say he is influenced quite a lot by me
"I just don't think men want to grow up as quickly. It depends on who the person is, of course - I've got some male friends who are extremely mature. I spend as little time with them as possible."
James blames his previous wild ways on finding fame later in life.
He said: "I was a wee bit lost at a time when I was beginning to get successful."
In the seventh series - the second since its revival in 2016 - James' character Adam cheated on girlfriend Tina Reynolds (Leanne Best) with his work colleague Sarah Poynter (Amy Huberman).
While Adam has admitted his alter-ego is "flawed", he previously admitted he is hoping his "likeability returns" after his character was unfaithful.
He said: "That's quite a serious point. It's very important that Adam's likeability returns.
"Adam is flawed and an idiot but I think that was a wee bit of a challenge in the last series, so I'm really excited about the new one."
'Cold Feet' ran for five series until 2003, and made a highly anticipated comeback 13 years later.
