James Middleton thinks it would be “really healthy” to take a social media break.
The 27-year-old reality star loves that fact platforms such as Instagram offer another opportunity for people to connect with one another, but he also worries about the pressure it causes to live up to other “perfect lives” so can see the benefits of switching off the apps for significant periods of time.
He said: “I think social media is an amazing place for people to learn, to be inspired and to connect with each other.
“On the flip side, I think it puts a lot of pressure on people to look a certain way and people find themselves comparing their life to other ‘perfect’ lives they see online.
“This can be incredibly damaging for people’s mental health and sets unrealistic standards – there’s a lot more going on than what meets the eye.
“Personally, I’m sure I could give up my profiles for a week or two to disconnect and take a break – I think it would be really healthy.
“However, I love having my platform – I love creating content for others and also educating and inspiring people to be positive and the best they can be.”
While James is happy with his current career as a fitness and mind coach, he dreams of being approached to compete on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Asked if he could be tempted back to reality TV, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “Let’s just say one of my dreams is to go on ‘Strictly’. I just love dancing!
“My game plan is to keep practicing and put it out to the universe that one day I will be on there. Watch this space.”
On May 7, James will be boarding the 08:06 London King’s Cross to Lincoln LNER Wellness Train, where he’ll be conducting a fitness and wellbeing Q A for travellers inside a dedicated coach and he’s looking forward to the opportunity to spark a “great conversation”.
He said: “On board the train, I will be running a self-development workshop and running a Q A with passengers. This will help me understand the areas of their lives they are looking to improve from a fitness and mindset perspective and give me the chance to provide advice.
“I’m looking forward to the interactive nature which should produce some great conversation. It will be a good chance for people to think about the areas of their lives they can improve and leave the train with methods to do just that.”
