The 46-year-old actor - who plays Max Branning - has confirmed he filmed his final scenes before a short spell away from Albert Square on Friday (30.11.18), and he will not be back for a few months.

Speaking about the soap's festive episodes, he said: "It's a really good Christmas. There's a lot happening.

"Max was featured very heavily last year - obviously it's not focused on Max Branning so much this year, which is good for me.

"I'm taking a few months off 'EastEnders'.

"I had my last day on Friday. I go back in March."

Jake will embark on a live tour with his boxing podcast 'Pound for Pound', which he hosts alongside former pro boxer Spencer Oliver, in January and February.

And while he loves appearing on 'EastEnders', the former 'Only Fools and Horses' star - who has kids Amber, 13, and Buster, 10, with wife Alison Murray - admits he doesn't see his family enough.

Speaking on 'Loose Women', he added: "I've been there 12 years and my approach has always been ... two years ago I had a year off. I love being there, I love the job, but it is very demanding. It's long hours.

"I've got a family, I've got two kids at home and a beautiful wife that I probably don't see enough of."

Jake took to Twitter in September to announce the tour of his boxing podcast, which will take place in January and February 2019.

He and Spencer will discuss their opinions on the latest news from the world of boxing and will be joined by numerous special guests.

He wrote: "Buzzing for this, gonna be so much fun. Can't wait to get out on the road with @PoundPodcast @SpencerOliver (sic)"
