The 'EastEnders' hunk - who is known for playing loveable bad boy Max Branning in the long-running soap - and his wife Alison Wood threw a Wed Fest earlier this month in a field in Hertfordshire to celebrate 23 years to the day they met.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the 45-year-old actor said: "We obviously love each other a lot but also we've always wanted the same things. You've got to work hard at it and you've got to talk. Alison's taught me that.

"We always have a date night once a week when we just hang out, catch up and talk. It's a chance for us to check in with one another to make sure we're still on track.

"We're not soppy but we know we love each other a lot. Alison means the world to me. I feel incredibly lucky to have been with such an amazing woman for so long and I'm looking forward to the next 23 years."

The couple - who have been married 16 years - celebrated their special day with their children Amber, 12, and Buster, nine, and 220 close friends and co-stars.

He explained: "[I invited] just the ones I'm closest to and work with all the time.

"I've known Steve McFadden for years. We don't get much of a chance to all hang out together socially because we've all got families, but we'll have the occasional night out.

"I'm really fond of Jacqueline Jossa and Dan Osborne [her husband]. They're an awesome couple and I'm really pleased they're in our lives."

The guests were treated to Sri Lankan curry, pizzas, hog roast and doughnuts as well as a performance from Alison Hammond, who sang 'Mustang Sally', in the tent.

Jake added: "Alison Hammond sang 'Mustang Sally'. She's got an amazing voicw ao that was an unexpected treat. We've got lots of friends who are musicians such as Ricky Wilde, so we had a great singsong."
