The screenwriter was best known for creating hit BBC sitcom 'Two Doors Down', but he has passed away at the age of 48.

'Bad Education' star Jack, 35, has told of how "sad" he was to wake up to the tragic news, after working with Simon in the early days of his career.

He tweeted: "So sad to wake up to this news. Simon was such a talented and gracious human being. He was my first ever script editor and I learned so much from him. He was so funny and charming and always such a joy to spend time with. RIP."

Simon's death was confirmed by his agent Amanda Davis, who issued a statement on Wednesday (09.08.23) evening.

She said: "I am immensely sorry to confirm that Simon Carlyle has died at the age of 48. Simon was a wonderful person and a major comedic talent. He was much respected across the industry both for the quality of his writing and for being a kind, funny, supportive and nurturing collaborator. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues."

The death of the acclaimed TV writer is said to have left stars of his sitcom "in bits" as they received the tragic news, just weeks after they wrapped filming on a seventh series of 'Two Doors Down'.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Simon was incredibly popular with all the cast and crew - they’re absolutely in bits over this.

“Simon was always on set. Everyone loved him and loved his writing. No one can quite believe it. They’re all devastated."
