The 39-year-old star portrayed evil Evan Crowhurst in the medical drama in 2019, and he would love the BBC to re-consider their decision to end the show in March 2022 after 23 years.

When told there is a campaign to save 'Holby', he said: "I'll be joining."

While Jack enjoyed his time in 'Holby', he admitted it was "tough" playing rapist Evan, so much so he would have to go for a walk after shooting hard-hitting scenes to "shake off" the character.

He said: "That was a tough role. It was the first time I'd learned a scene or script like that and I had to kind of shake him off.

"I had to go for a walk through town and go, 'I've got to shake this guy off, because I don't like this chap.' "

Jack is best known for playing Jamie Mitchell in 'EastEnders' from 1998 to 2002 when the character was killed off on Christmas Day, but the actor admitted it was difficult suddenly being in the spotlight when he joined the BBC One soap.

Speaking on 'Lorraine', he added: "I loved the work, but the fame side was tough to cope with at that time.

"But I had great family and great friends, so I just kept my head down."

As well as 'Holby', Jack - who was previously married to former 'Coronation Street' actress Kym Marsh - has also starred in medical soap 'Doctors', portraying Grant Hill in 2019.

An online petition to save 'Holby' has received more than 40,000 signatures.
