Marvel fans have been waiting for Netflix original series The Defenders for some time now, and with the episodes that make up that show now just a couple of months away from release, tid bits of information surrounding the four heroes and various other characters involved are beginning to trickle out.
One of those heroes is Danny Rand aka Iron Fist, played by former Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones. Though his standalone series Iron Fist wasn’t very well received at all by the critics, the general viewing public were much nicer about his debut season, and he will still of course be playing an integral part in the story we see in The Defenders.
Speaking about his character’s role in the upcoming series, Jones said: “The thing there with Danny is that we’re taking an ordinary kid with a lot of issues and we’re trying to iron those out first before getting to Danny as Iron Fist. And what we’ll [do] in Defenders is Danny coming to terms with being a superhero.
“In The Defenders when he first starts, he doesn’t even know what a superhero is and then he meets these guys and he’s like ‘WHOA. This is cool,’ and by the end of it you kind of see Danny really coming to the grips with his responsibility in a much more mature way.”
The idea that Rand has no idea what a superhero is, is certainly an interesting one. We’ve seen him return to New York after a huge hiatus away from all of the drama that took place in the city and beyond, so it does make sense that he wouldn’t know anything of that world up until the point he’s forced to become a part of it.
Now that he realises his full potential and power however, it’s time for Iron Fist to grow up and step up to the mantle. He has to do his best to achieve crime-fighting goals with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and we’re sure that’s something we’ll see in The Defenders.
The Defenders hits Netflix in all territories the streaming service is available on August 18, 2017.
