'The Inbetweeners' writers "can't imagine" not creating another series.

The hit comedy series - which starred Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas - came to an end in 2010, but show creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley still keep in touch with the lads and still believe a new series with the original cast is on the cards.

Iain told Digital Spy: "I love everybody involved in it so much, and we all still talk, and we've got a hilarious WhatsApp group.

"And, you know, I can't imagine not doing something with them ever again. I don't know if it would be 'The Inbetweeners'."

The duo haven't had any "brilliant ideas" for the characters, but they think it would be easy to film once they have a script.

Damon added: "If we could think of something and thought, 'Oh, that's a brilliant idea for those four characters!' I think it would be the easiest thing in the world to just go back there and do it."

However, Simon Bird - who played geeky Will MacKenzie - has recently insisted an 'Inbetweeners' reunion will "never" happen.

The 35-year-old actor doesn't believe a comeback could work with the original cast, as they are in their thirties and are too old for the crude gags that made the show so popular.

Simon - who now stars in 'Friday Night Dinner' - said: "I think the reason that show worked is because the characters are kids, so they could say the terrible, awful things they said.

"Whereas if the characters were in their mid to late thirties, it's slightly different!"
