The BBC One soap and medical drama will crossover in March in a two part special when a cyber-attack leaves Holby City Hospital in chaos, with intertwining stories meaning familiar faces from both shows will interact.

The exciting collaboration will kick off during 'Casualty' on March 2, and will conclude with an episode of 'Holby City' on March 5.

It means the likes of Sacha Levy (Bob Barrett) will be seen sharing a screen with Elle Gardner (Jaye Griffiths).

BBC is celebrating the 20th anniversary of 'Holby', with returning characters set to make guest appearances throughout the year.

Storylines set for the crossover special include a possible pregnancy, a car crash and two members of staff facing a fight for their lives with only one operating theatre available.

Simon Harper, the executive producer of both shows, said: "We've known for some time there's been major audience appetite for a mega crossover between these sister shows.

"You'll see both the Casualty and Holby teams striving heroically against the odds in two episodes of pure, nail-biting, taut, emotional medical drama."

Harper also heaped praise on the way the production teams have handled combining the two programmes, which are filmed in Cardiff and Elstree.

He added: "There's so much to relish in the cross-show character interactions: an especially poignant thematic resonance between two regulars, Connie and Jac, in delicious conflict, and perhaps most vitally, who from Casualty has been secretly carrying on with whom from Holby!"
