Helen George never expected teenagers to become fans of BBC One series Call The Midwife.
Playing the feisty Trixie Franklin in the 50s drama, the actress has admitted she gets a lot of fan mail from youngsters who are interested in following her on-screen career path, and she insists both she and show bosses didn't expect such an appeal to that age group.
In an interview with OK! magazine, Helen explained: "What's interesting is that we seem to have a younger fan base too. I've got letters from 13 and 14-year-old girls who love the show and are interested in midwifery.
"So it's good that midwifery has been brought to the forefront.
"They're interested in how we work with the community and the relationships between all the girls. I don't think we were expecting to capture that sort of audience straight away."
When asked what she thinks the appeal of the show is, she added: "It's an ensemble piece. I hope one of the reasons that it's been such a success is that there's a chemistry between all of us and I hope that comes across on screen. I think that this series is going to be the best."
