'Happy Valley' won the only publicly-voted award at the BAFTAs with P+O Cruises on Sunday (12.05.24).
The hit BBC drama series came to a conclusion last year and the final showdown between characters Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) and Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) was handed the P+O Cruises Memorable Moment, with the show's young star Rhys Connah (Ryan Cawood) being sent up alone to collect it.
Speaking live on stage at the Royal Festival Hall, he said: "I got a message the other day saying that if we won it, I could go up and say a few words and accept it. They didn't tell me I'd be on my own, so yeah, bit nervous.
"Thank you so much to every single person who watched this show, who voted for this show. It means so much to me and everyone else down there who work on 'Happy Valley', we cannot thank you enough. Thanks mostly to Sally Wainwright, the writer of the show, for that incredible scene."
The viral moment had gone up against David Beckham teasing wife Victoria about her “working class” upbringing in their Netflix documentary, Ncuity Gatwa being unveiled as the new lead in 'Doctor Who', Bill and Frank’s story in 'The Last of Us' and 13-year old Lucy stunning commuters with her performance on 'The Piano'.
Meanwhile, 'Celebrity Race Across The World' won the award for Factual Entertainment having gone up against 'The Dog House', 'Endurance: Race To The Pole', and 'Portrait Artist of the Year'.
'Sort Your Life Out host Stacey Solomon was on hand to present the award and just before arriving on the stage, was subject to a brutal dig from host Rob Beckett regarding her marriage to former 'EastEnders' actor Joe Swash.
He said: ''Sort Your Life Out' is a bit much coming from the woman who married Joe Swash! Could you please welcome the national treasure that is Stacey Solomon?"
Stacey fired back: "He's not that bad...well, he is! I'm very excited to be out of the house, I'm usually watching these shows at home with five kids and a Joe Swash!"
