'Happy Valley' is set to return for a third series.
The popular BBC One police drama is set for an exciting sequel, packed with an unexpected plot twist, next year following the huge success of the first two installments, which pulled in a staggering seven million viewers.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the source explained: "There are lots of exciting plans."
The forthcoming series will see Sergeant Catherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire) - who is still grieving over her dead daughter - contemplate leaving the corrupt police force as she continues to protect her fragile grandson Ryan (Rhys Conna) from his rapist father Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) - who is serving time in prison for allegedly raping the officer's daughter - and his conniving girlfriend.
Meanwhile, the current gripping series, which has seen the matriarch investigate numerous killings of prostitutes in West Yorkshire, will come to an explosive end next week as disgraced policeman John Wadsworth (played Kevin Doyle) could face justice for murdering a woman with whom he was having an affair.
