Guy Pearce is returning to 'Neighbours.'
The 54-year-old actor started his career paying Mike Young in the Aussie soap opera - which is set to come to an end this August after it was axed by bosses earlier this year - and will return to his roots for the final episode.
He told Metro: "It is very exciting and surreal at the same time being back on set again, however it feels like coming home. It's where it all started for me professionally."
The 'Domino' star went on to explain that following his departure from the role back in 1989, he has been asked to return to the show before but only decided to once he knew it was coming to an end.
He added: "It's where it all started for me professionally. I've been asked to come back on occasions over the years and wondered if it was the right thing to do, but once I knew the show was finishing, I knew I had to do it. While I've caught up with many of the cast I worked with on the show over the years, there is nothing like being here all together again."
Executive producer Jason Herbison is "honoured" that the Hollywood star is returning to the show and claimed that Mike's comeback will answer any questions viewers may have.
He said: "I'm incredibly honoured that Guy is returning to the show for a very special story arc. Having him back on set has been poignant for him and for us. He's been very involved in the storyline, and I can't wait to finally answer the question for viewers – who is Mike Young today."
Other 'Neighbours' stars set to return for the final episode include Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan - who played young couple Scott and Charlene Robinson in the 1980s before departing the soap for chart success - and pop superstar Kylie, 53, recently claimed that her return had made her feel "19 again."
She said: "I wanted to be reminded of being that 19-year-old again, when I would get into my Datsun and fang it to Vermont South or the Network Ten studios at Nunawading,’ [in Melbourne where the show is filmed]."
The soap - which began in 1985 and has also launched the careers of other superstars such as Holly Valance and Margot Robbie - faced the chop back in March when UK broadcaster Channel 5 decided not to renew their broadcasting deal and despite campaigns to save the show, it was eventually confirmed that it would broadcast its final episode in August 2022 after almost 9000 episodes.
