Grantchester is to feature James Norton (Death Comes to Pemberley, Rush) as Sidney Chambers in the new six-part drama.
Police Inspector Geordie Keating will be portrayed by Robson Green (Reckless, Wire In The Blood) in the 1953 Cambridgeshire-set series.
Central to the plot of the show is the unlikely partnership between Sidney and down to earth Geordie, as Geordie's methodical policing approach complements Sidney's more intuitive techniques of getting the information he needs from witnesses and suspects.
Partners in crime, the two make a friendship they never expected, each offering unique insights into the crimes they investigate.
Morven Christie (Hunted, Twenty Twelve) is also to star as heiress Amanda Kendall, who has a love for Sidney that's reciprocated but without a future, as her father is hoping she'll marry an aristocratic beau.
Playing Sidney's housekeeper Mrs Maguire is Tessa Peake-Jones (Marchlands, Only Fools and Horses), keeping him in check and keeping his chaotic vicarage respectable and presentable, as well as his black Labrador puppy Dickens.
Loving wife to Geordie Cathy is played by Kacey Ainsworth (Eastenders, Holby Blue) and is expecting a fourth child, while Sidney's curate Leonard Finch is portrayed by Al Weave (Southcliffe, Secret State).
German actress Pheline Roggan also features as pale, interesting and stunning widdow Hildegard Staunton.
The series is adapted from the novel Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death by James Runcie, written by Daisy Coulam and commissioned from Lovely Day.
Emma Kingsman-Lloyd will produce, while the executive producer come in the form of Diederick Santer. Lead Director for the series is Harry Bradbeer.
Filming begins this month in London, Grantchester and Cambridge and is expected to continue shooting until June.
