Graeme Hawley was relieved to land an upbeat role in 'Love and Marriage' after playing an on-screen serial killer.

The former 'Coronation Street' actor - who is known for playing multiple murderer John Stape in the ITV soap - has enjoyed portraying father-of-five Martin in the comedy-drama series because he loved the humorous side of the programme compared to his serious role on 'Corrie'.

He said: "I seem to have spent a lot of time killing people and being miserable over the years, so it was great to do this show.

"My character, Martin, is funny and I definitely want to do more comic projects.

"I'd love to do stand-up but I'm not brave enough. If I wanted to, I should have done it before now because being known as a character like John Stape would make performing comedy difficult."

The 39-year-old actor - who has two children of his own with wife Elianne Byrne - admits starring as a father-of-five in 'Love and Marriage' has put him off having many more kids.

He added to The Sun newspaper: "The kids who played Martin and Michelle's children were brilliant but filming did make me appreciate how easy I have it compared to Martin. It convinced me that my wife and I won't be having five kids - it was chaos. I'm in favour of Martin having a vasectomy in series two."
