Gotham creator and showrunner Bruno Heller and his production team on the television series will this year be bringing 'Rise of the Villains' to the screen with the second season of the popular show, and TV Guide has now revealed that viewers won't have to wait long to see the repurcussions of dangerous foes lining the streets of Gotham.
During its first few episodes, the show will include two "significant" characters meeting their doom, with one described as "sudden and unexpected", whilst the other is a key factor behind James Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) actions and motivation throughout the season.
Both look to be directly connected to the form of a gang called the Maniax, which includes Joker-like Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) and other Arkham Asylum inmates. Formed by Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister Tabitha 'Tigress' Galavan (Jessica Lucas), the group will be unleashed upon Gotham with the intent of causing as much chaos as possible.
Early rumours suggest that those who could die may be James Gordon's current girlfriend, Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) to really drive Gordon on to tackling the city's crime, as well as Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara), who is going to lose her position at the GCPD at some point, as Captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) will be showing up to lead proceedings.
Gotham's second season premieres on Monday, September 21 in the US on FOX, and on Channel 5 in the UK later this year.
