Gotham debuted last night on Channel 5, and overnight data reveals it was a huge success.
The new DC origin series launched with a hefty 1.73 million (7.8%) viewers on average at 9pm, with an additional 317,000 (2.1%) tuning in on +1.
Made in Chelsea's return on E4 brought in 549,000 (2.5%) who wanted to see what the cast were up to in their eighth series, but it was BBC One who topped the ratings overall.
New Tricks took 4.73 million (21.4%) viewers at the same time, whilst BBC Two's The Kitchen continued with 889,000 (4.0%) and BBC Three's Hotel of Mum and Dad was enjoyed by 380,000 (1.7%).
Grantchester came close to the top with a nice share of the audience - 4.15 million (18.8%) - and sister channel ITV2 showed Release the Hounds to 336,000 (1.5%), whilst Channel 4's 24 Hours in Police Custody entertained 1.64 million.
