The 54-year-old chef was filming the series, 'Gordon, Gino and Fred's Road Trip', in Egypt alongside Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix, but they were forced to fly home days after arriving in the country because bosses couldn’t guarantee their safety.

A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "Once the lads reached Egypt after a great time in Greece, there was a COVID outbreak, with many of the locals catching it.

"It soon became apparent the Egypt production team were not taking the protocols as seriously as they should, so Gordon pulled the plug on the advice of the show’s producers after some frantic calls to ITV.

"They flew straight home into quarantine and thankfully nobody picked up anything. It was the sensible thing to do, but it’s gutting as the latest instalment of the hit won’t be as long."

Gordon, Gino and Fred previously enjoyed themselves in Greece, where they spent time in Crete, Santorini and Mykonos on a catamaran.

However, it's proven impossible to reschedule the third 'Road Trip' series, as Gordon and Gino already have other filming commitments.

Earlier this month, Gordon joined forces with Fox Entertainment.

The celebrity chef signed a deal with the entertainment giant to form a new worldwide production venture, Studio Ramsay Global.

He said at the time: "This is an incredibly exciting opportunity, not just for me, but for the team at Studio Ramsay. We'll be creating food and lifestyle ideas, but also developing an incredible new talent pool of food, drink and industry leaders to create our own culinary talent branch.

"I couldn't be more excited about this new global partnership with FOX. After 16 incredible years working together, this takes Studio Ramsay to the next level."
