Set in 1980s Los Angeles, Ruth is a struggling actress who finds her last chance in a world of glitter and spandex, as women’s wrestling becomes a hit with sports entertainment fans in America. Working alongside 12 other Hollywood misfits, she’s thrust down a path she never expected to find herself on, and soon has to compete with former soap actress Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin); a woman who left the business to have a child.
Washed-up, B-movie director Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron) is the man intent on leading these ladies to success, but how will they fare when they realise the business they’re competing in is one of the most vicious and competitive out there?
